Micaela Benedicto
Micaela Benedicto is an architect, artist, and musician living and working in Manila. She founded MB Architecture Studio in 2007, where her practice emphasizes thorough planning and form-finding to achieve a distinct spatial quality, informed by site conditions in the tropical context and the project clients’ individual stories.
Benedicto’s art practice involves the construction of three-dimensional forms and the manipulation of materials in order to explore ideas of impermanence, memory and loss. Working across sculpture and the photogram method of photography, she creates forms and images that possess transformative properties and aim to engage the viewer’s perception. Her architecture and music backgrounds inform the language of her work in visual art, through the use of geometric form, sequence, and pattern. Her objective is to explore in architectonic form the combination of truth and individual imagination by which one constructs their perception of a structure, object or image.
Recent solo exhibitions include Pool at MO_Space (2025), a floor-mounted field of twenty-eight silver-toned photograms on aluminum; A History of Hollows at Tarzeer Pictures (2024), built around objects taken from her mother’s apartment before its sale; Hemispheres at Tarzeer Pictures (2023); and Volume at Silverlens. In 2024 her outdoor work was included in the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale in South Korea. She has also shown at Modeka Art, Blanc Gallery, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and 1335Mabini.
Alongside her visual practice, Benedicto is one half of the dream pop duo Outerhope, formed with her brother Michael Benedicto, and one half of the synth project Polyphonic Vision with Mario Consunji. Together with Michael and Mario, she is a co-founder of 1F Projects.
