Friday night at 1F Projects. Midnight Intruder, Cyril Yarisantos, and Samantha Nicole on the bill. Midnight Intruder and Yarisantos both come out of the Groove Nation lineage of 90s Manila parties; Samantha Nicole brings her UNKNWN and Manila Community Radio orbit.
Mario Serrano is a Manila-based DJ whose career traces back to Groove Nation, the collective behind a generation of formative underground parties through the 1990s. He DJs under aliases including Midnight Intruder, and releases music as Marioscafe — most recently the album Overnight Success.
Cyril Yarisantos is a Manila DJ and producer who began mixing soul, R&B, hip-hop, breaks, funk and disco in 1990, and by 1991 — at age 15 — was one of the youngest residents on the Manila club circuit, where he turned toward house and techno. A co-resident at Groove Nation’s Deep Fried, he later played the latter run of the Consortium parties. His sets and releases on Funkfield and Dustpan Records have placed him alongside Marques Wyatt, Juan Nunez, Nathan Coles, Evil Eddie Richards, and Detroit’s Kevin Saunderson.
Samantha Nicole is a Metro Manila DJ and electronic artist whose sets across the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam range through house, funk, bass, techno, electro, world, indie, and disco — held together by a particular ear for jacking rhythms. She’s the music and programming director of Futur:st and UNKNWN, and a co-founder of Today x Future, Manila Community Radio, UNKNWN, CC: Concepts, and the Poblacion bar Futur:st.
